Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a wired and wireless microphone hire?

Wired mics (like the Shure SM58) are simple and reliable, great for a fixed speech position or vocalist. Wireless mics (Shure SLXD or BLX) give you freedom to move around — better for hosts, MCs or performers working the room.

Do I need a mixer if I'm already hiring a speaker set?

Most of our speaker sets already include a mixer sized to the set. A standalone mixer is worth adding if you're running multiple microphones or instruments and want more control over levels.

Which mixer should I hire for a live band?

For a small live band or multiple mics, an analogue desk like the Mackie Onyx 1620i or Soundcraft Notepad-12FX covers most needs. For more channels and remote control from a tablet, the Behringer X AIR XR18 digital mixer scales up further.

Do I need a DI box for a keyboard or DJ mixer?

Yes, if the mixer is more than a few metres away. A DI box converts the 1/4" output into a balanced XLR signal for long, hum-free cable runs. The Radial ProD2 stereo DI handles a stereo keyboard, DJ mixer or laptop with one box, for $15 per event.

Can I hire microphones for a drum kit?

Yes, we have dedicated drum mic sets available to hire alongside our acoustic or electronic drum kits, or on their own for your own kit.
